Now, in this second part, we are going to talk about the coastal area, and the fantastic places that we can visit in this natural beauty.

A school trip to Doñana is not just a guided tour to the park. In fact, it is much more, since several places surrounding the park are truly amazing and worth a visit.

Also, some active tourism and adventure activities will make our trip a success. Let’s take a look at some suggestions for an end-of-year trip to the coast of Doñana.

What to do on your end-of-year trip to Doñana?

  1. Visit Isla Canela and practice water sports.

Isla Canela is a huge beach with golden sand and turquoise water. There you can practice many water sports such as sailing, canoeing, windsurfing, kitesurfing and much more.

An incredible idea is to appreciate the beautiful sunsets that can be seen from the beaches. This island is located towards the municipality of Ayamonte, which is a beautiful town with an incredible Andalusian atmosphere. It is characterized by its small bars, winding streets and nightlife.

  1. Visit the fish market of Isla Cristina.

The famous fish market of Isla Cristina, along with Vigo, is the most important in Spain. In this place you can see first-hand the whole process of the fish, since the boats arrive at the port, unload the fresh fish and take it to the fish market for auction.

It is advisable to go there to appreciate the atmosphere, since it is not possible to buy at the auction. Every day hundreds of kilos of fresh fish and seafood arrive here. The white shrimp is the main protagonist of the auctions, and you can taste it served as a tapa or appetizer in the local bars.

  1. End-of-year trip to Doñana: The imposing Asperillo Cliff.

This vertiginous cliff is impressive for its 30 meters high and its great extension of kilometers long. This place also has an enormous scenic, ecological and biological value.

The best way to get to know the Asperillo Cliff is to walk along marked trails such as the well-known Cuesta Maneli. There you can appreciate the beautiful dunes and various ecosystems that lead to the cliff itself.

  1. Visit the Rio Tinto Mining Park.

You can visit the Mining Museum in the park, and tour the park on the exciting Tourist Railway, where you will learn a lot about the history of mining in the area.

It is located in the former hospital of the Riotinto Company Limited. In the last century an English company managed the mining in Huelva until 1954. Touring the museum is a journey into the past and learn about the history while the railroad makes the journey.

The journey on the railroad is 12 kilometers, and will take you from the old mining basin, to places like the Rio Tinto, named after its reddish color due to the presence of heavy metals, making this river unique in the world.

  1. Learn about history in the Lugares Colombinos.

One of the most striking ideas to do on your end-of-year trip to Doñana, is to take an outdoor history class about the discovery of America.

You can do this in Palos de la Frontera, where the Odiel and Tinto rivers meet. The place is a beautiful natural spot, and there you will find a recreation of the caravels that Christopher Columbus used for the first voyage of the Discovery of America.

Very close to this site there are also other tourist attractions such as the Muelle de las Carabelas, as well as buildings declared as Historic-Artistic Site between the municipalities of Moguer and Palos de la Frontera.
